What is 1st Steps Ministry?
1st Steps is a weekday education ministry held each Tuesday and Thursday throughout the school year. This ministry is designed to help children grow in all areas of life: spiritually, emotionally, physically, cognitively, and socially.
Who is able to attend 1st Steps?
1st Steps is designed for children who are 6 months through Pre-K.
What will my child(ren) experience at 1st Steps?
Each day the children will explore God’s world in a safe and loving environment. Components of the day include:
- Bible Story Time
- Theme-related Group Time
- Numbers and Letters
- Music and Movement
- Classroom Learning Centers
- Indoor Play
- Lunch and Snack Times
- Special Events Days
What are the hours of 1st Steps?
Drop-off time will be at 9:00 a.m. Pick-up time will be at 2:00 p.m.
Will there be a curriculum used by the teachers?
Yes, WEE Learn Curriculum will be used for all classrooms. This curriculum is written for multiple ages: Infants & Toddlers, 2 years, 3 years, and Pre-K. This allows for age-appropriate learning and structured teaching each time your child attends.
Who will be teaching and caring for my child during 1st Steps?
Each classroom will have two teachers. There will be a leader teacher and an assistant teacher. We are currently seeking the right people to be a part of the 1st Step leadership. Anything else I need to know about the teachers/leaders?
First Baptist Church and 1st Steps leadership take the safety of every child seriously. Each leader will have the following:
- An approved background check completed by MinistrySafe
- MinistrySafe Awareness Training
- CPR/First Aid Training and Certification
- Classroom training
- Spiritual encouragement and group prayer each Tuesday/Thursday
Is there a cost!
Yes, There will be a $50 registration fee per family (non-refundable). This takes care of the initial administration fees and holding of your child’s place in their class and is due when you register each child. There will also be a supply fee to cover a majority of the resources your child will use during 1st Steps. This fee will be due in July and covers the entire year – August, 2024 through May, 2025.
There will also be a monthly fee of $225. This covers the wages of the classroom teachers and special teachers. This is @$4 per hour of teaching and care per child.
Is space limited in each class?
Yes, The following will be the child to 2 teacher ratio.
Infants – 6; 1’s – 10; 2’s – 10; 3’s – 12; 4’s – 15

Supply fee and monthly tuition due at a later date.
This is the “short form” for registration and will hold your child’s place in their classroom. A complete packet of information and forms will be sent to you soon, in order to provide all applicable information while they are in our care. This additional information will need to be submitted two weeks prior to 1st Steps first day of class.
