Our pastor, as he prefers to be called “Bro. Mike” began serving at FBC in 2005 and has been serving in ministry since 1984. He has served in other churches in Texas as a Minister of Youth, Minister of Education and as Sr. Pastor.
Bro. Mike received Christ as his personal savior as a child while attending Calvary Baptist Church in his hometown of Lewisville, Tx. He accepted God’s call on his life to vocational ministry at the age of 18 and immediately began serving through the local church. Bro. Mike received his degree in theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Tx. in 1994. He has done almost everything you can imagine from being a mortgage banker to a short stint as an auctioneer.
Bro. Mike and his wife April (high school sweetheart) have been married since 1986 and have three children; Travis, Tori and Trent who are all active in serving the Lord in the specific ways God has called them individually. Bro. Mike reflects that “when God gave our children to us, we committed them to the Lord for Him to use as he saw fit…it has been an exciting adventure to see them mature in Christ and serve Him in response to their individual calling.”
When not working, Bro. Mike loves to hunt, fish, work in his yard and be outdoors. He became bi-lingual while living on the Mexican border for 7 years and loves good Mexican food. He makes a pretty mean salsa himself and often refuses to buy “store bought salsa.”
He is committed to the expository preaching of God’s word, the Bible and holds a very high view of the authority of scripture in the lives of individuals and the church. He loves leading mission trips and does so at least once a year from our church body. These have included ministry trips to the Texas/Mexico Borderlands, to the interior of Mexico, Tennessee, New Mexico and Arizona. He has a passion to see God’s people put their faith into practice….or as he says “your walkie walkie has to match your talkie talkie.”
